Chinese lanterns at the Louisville Zoo

Explore Wild Lights at the Louisville Zoo

Sponsored PostRecently my family and I went to explore the Louisville Zoo Wild Lights. This was our second year coming to the Spring time event, and it was so magical and bigger than last year! I am excited to be partnering with the Louisville Zoo to tell you about our experience so you can learn all about the event and plan your visit! This is a must-visit for anyone seeking a magical spectacle in Kentucky, so pack up the family, friends or even a date night and set out to explore the Louisville zoo lights! What to expect at Wild LightsJourney through ancient Chinese legends brought to life with stunning lights as you wander along a 1.4-mile path illuminated by handcrafted lantern displays. You’ll be immersed in vibrant depictions of nature, with beautiful coral reefs and life-size creatures.  Encounter dragons soaring through the night sky and enter multiple light tunnels including a phoenix tunnel, dragon tunnel, flower tunnel and more for an unforgettable experience.Although you can not touch the lanterns, there are also plenty of interactive displays! Dance along the piano set and watch the lights react to your movement, beat on the bango drums as it sends light waves up through an illuminated tree, step on one of the multiple interactive light spots and watch how it makes the lanterns move in response. In addition to the lights, there are also multiple performances throughout the day so you can take a break from walking and enjoy traditional Chinese performances on the MetaZoo stage. Performances include acrobats, face changing and contortion! As you get closer to the end of your journey you’ll be able to read your Chinese Lunar New Year Zodiac Animal (i’m the monkey), swing on the illuminated light swings and marvel at the large Chinese Pagoda. You are at the zoo, so a natural question is will I see animals at Wild Lights? The answer is yes and no. You’ll likely see some animals like the flamingos, and we saw the Zebra and a few others, however majority of the animals will be sleeping and in for the evening and the Wild Lights are really the show! They light up and display the entire walking path.Along the walking path, you will have plenty of options for food and drink too so make it a whole evening. They have a featured menu that is on-theme like the Crab Rangoon Burger, Spring Rolls, and Asian Street Fries as well as tradition food and snacks like popcorn, ice cream and cotton candy. They also have some alcoholic options like Asian Pear Sangria (This is what I had, highly recommend) and Spiked Spiced Chai as well as your standard beer and seltzers
